Lead-safe preparation

Health Canada advises that homes built before 1960 probably contain lead-based paint, and homes built between 1960 and 1990 may too — especially outside. Sanding, scraping or heat guns can turn it into toxic dust.

  • We ask the age of your home before quoting prep
  • Testing is recommended before sanding or scraping older paint
  • Intact paint can often be safely painted over
  • Lead-safe practices when old paint must be disturbed

Low-VOC by default

Canada limits volatile organic compounds in paint under the VOC Concentration Limits for Architectural Coatings Regulations — for example, 100 g/L for flat coatings. We specify low-VOC products wherever they suit the surface.
