Fire, smoke, or someone shocked? Leave the area and call 911 first. For downed power lines, stay at least 10 metres away and call your utility.

Burning smell

Switch off the affected circuit if safe; if there is smoke or fire, leave and call 911.

Sparking outlet

Stop using it and switch off its breaker if you can do so safely.

Breaker keeps tripping

Don’t keep resetting it — it is protecting the circuit.

Partial power loss

Check with your utility for outages, then call us.

Buzzing or hot panel

Keep clear; don’t open the panel cover.

Exposed wiring

Keep people and pets away until it is made safe.

Find the cause, not just the symptom

A tripping breaker or a warm outlet is a symptom. Diagnosis finds the cause — overload, a failing device or a wiring fault — before anything is replaced.
