- Clear debris from between boards so water drains

- Check guards, stairs and fasteners after the freeze
- Look for posts or footings that have shifted
General care for Canadian decks. Your decking maker's instructions come first, especially for cleaners and de-icers.
If you see any of these, book an inspection before the summer rush.
Moisture may be getting into the boards or the framing below.
Loose posts or connectors; the guard must resist a real push.
Corroded screws and nails lose their grip over time.
Posts that stay wet at grade deserve a close look.
Uneven boards after the thaw can mean shallow footings moved.
Common on older wood decks, and often the trigger for a resurface.

If the footings and framing are sound, a resurface with new boards and guards gives you a new deck for less. If they aren't, we'll say so and show you why.
